COMMANDER’S NOTES:

I would like to thank you for the support that I’ve received since you elected me to Commander of Post 165 on May 2 of this year.

Following that thank you, is a request for your involvement during this upcoming year.

As Commander, one of my first duties is to see that necessary committees are properly staffed. I will be calling on some of you to come help me in differing capacities during the year.

Some committees have been unstaffed for several years – I guess you could take that as an invitation. If you are interested in becoming more involved in your Post 165 come to the Regular Meeting on the first Wednesday of the month. See Sergeant-at-arms Steve Tracy at the door & make sure he lets me know you are attending.

Chuck Kaminski – Post 165 Commander

AUXILIARY NEWS:

Hi Ladies - Fall is upon us and the leaves are starting to fall; but we here at the Post are keeping busy.  Our Swiss Steak dinner was Saturday and I hope many of you came out to eat and enjoy. WE are having a Bazaar, Bake Sale and Raffle in 2 weeks on Nov 3rd.  Please come as you may find some early Christmas presents.  IT will be here sooner than you think.  A lunch will also be available.  Also, if you have not been contacted to bake for the Bazaar for the bake sale and would like to, please do so and bring it out to the post on Friday Nov.2nd.  It will be greatly appreciated. The Bazaar is from 9 to 5 PM with the drawing to take place at 5 PM.

I understand that the dues notices have been mailed and we were informed that there was a printing error.  It is not $11 but $20, same as last year.  If you have sent only $11 we will hold it till you send the remaining $9.  Sorry for the inconvenience.

Also as I said last month we are beginning to e-mail the newsletter beginning this month.  Those of you that have sent me your e-mail address, I thank you. Those who have not may do so by e-mailing it to me at howdawg@chartermi.net. It will really help in cutting down on cost plus you will also know all that is going on at your post as everyone is included.

Remember our meetings are the 1st Wednesday of the month at 7:30 PM.

Hope to see you there. Rosie Howden, Auxiliary President

Have you thanked a volunteer recently? Have you volunteered recently? Burger night cooks needed. Bingo night team workers needed. See Legion 2nd Vice Commander Steve Hammond or SAL 1st Vice Commander Ed Holder or Auxiliary 2nd Vice President Rei-Li Tracy

From your Post 165 Legion Adjutant (Pat Hanley):

Membership is the life blood of the Legion. You are members of THE AMERICAN LEGION – Post 165. Without YOU, the Legion doesn’t exist. Our membership goal this year is 670 members, that’s down from past years for multiple reasons. As of today 498 of you have paid your $40 dues & received your 2008 Legion card. That’s 74% of goal. Remember that your 2007 card is only good until January 31, 2007.

General Membership meetings are held the 1st Wednesday of each month at 7:30 p.m. The next meetings are November 7th, December 5th and January 2nd. Executive Committee meetings are currently being held on as needed basis. ALL official meetings of Post 165 are open meetings.

Minutes from these meetings are posted on our website. (www.post165.com). Webmaster Dean Titus.

From The Son’s Of The American Legion - Squadron #0165

The SAL held our annual harvest dinner on Sat. the 13th of October. We had 206 guests come and enjoy the meal we had prepared. This was up from last year. We would like to thank all who came, and those that helped with the preparation and dinner. It would not be possible to do these events without the members who volunteer their time and talents. We are trying to assemble an SAL burger night crew. It would be only once a month for a few hours on Thursdays, we still need 1 or 2 more individuals to complete the Team. If we can get more than 4 people to commit to this, we could rotate members out and give crew members a month off once in a while. Our post depends on its volunteers. If you currently don’t volunteer, please consider helping out! Our dinners and burger nights help keep our post alive. Even if you can manage 2 or 3 times a year, it would help out more than you think. The drawing for our Annual Raffle is on Saturday, October 27th at 8:30 p.m., during the "Halloween - Karaoke - Fund Raising for Troop Packages Party". Tickets are still available at the bar and will be on sale at the bar until 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

Mike Brandt – SAL Commander
