Games, food, auction, raffles ALL TO "support our troops". Brian Klouse will be extending his normal KAROAKE to run 6 pm to midnight. (Kids welcome to sing 6 – 7:30 pm). This has to be one of the easiest volunteer events you can take part in this year.

Vickie & Steve Hammond & Helpers

From the Commander:

Berryhill Post 165 has not had an "Installation" of new members in several years. We are planning for June 13, Friday night at 7:30 pm to install our new members. This occasion will be for Legion, Auxiliary and S.A.L. We will also be combining this evening to honor our members who have achieved either 50 or 60 years of continuous membership in the Legion, specifically those who were unable to attend our January thru March meetings to receive this honor. Invitations, with RSVP, will go out to new members joining from 1/1/2007 through 6/13/2008 in late May for this June 13 event, however ALL members are welcome to attend.

Remember, elections will be held at our next regular meeting, May 7. Come out and assure your vote is counted.

Chuck Kaminski.

Several times a year, we (Legion) go to the VA hospital in Saginaw to help running a bingo (6-9 pm) for hospital bound veterans. Thanks this year to Bob Bauder, Dave Kanary, Stuart Bergstein and Bob Walker for joining Chuck Kaminski, Willie Coomer & Steve Tracy.

Two VA hospital bingos are in the near future. The Auxiliary will be coordinating a bingo on Wednesday, May 21. Deb Northrup will be needing helpers.

Next time the Legion goes, on Thursday, June 19, Pat Hanley will be needing three helpers. If you would like to go, contact Pat at 989-488-2025 or Steve Tracy 989-835-3733. The only prerequisite is that you want to relieve a little boredom in the life of a hospitalized veteran’s confinement, Deb & Pat will take care of the rest.

---- June Events-----

June 13 INSTALLATION of new Berryhill members Legion, Auxiliary & SAL – 7:30 pm

"Poppy Days" 2008 are May 15, 16 & 17. Twenty-two (22) people per day are needed to staff the selling of poppies this year. There will be more selling sites in town this year.

Dick Blasy is our 2008 Chairman. Dick will have a "sign-up" list for volunteers at the post. You can also call Dick at 989-430-1939 to volunteer.

On the back page of this newsletter there is an article thanking volunteers for their help at Berryhill Post 165. This list is by no means exhaustive and the past 12 months have brought many new people to volunteer at the Legion. We are still waiting for you, if you have the time call 989-832-7202 & volunteer.

From the 10th District Commander.

Ready for a Springtime Sunday Drive to Harrison, Michigan? Going North on May 4th? READ ON!!

We have a 100% American Legion Michigan 10th District, all because the posts have come thru with their membership this year. A very good job done by everyone in the 10th district.

Remember that the next 10th district meeting is on Sunday May the 4th and the meeting is at Harrison Post 404. Lunch will be at noon followed by the Yearly American Legion Memorial service (where recently passed Legionnaires, Auxiliary members as well as Sons of the American Legion will be remembered) followed by the regular district meeting. It would be nice to see a showing from Berryhill.

Willie Coomer

Hello Ladies,

Happy Spring!  I do believe it has arrived and I am so ever grateful.  The temp today is 69 degrees, sunny but windy.  I will take it.  I would like to thank all the ladies who helped on our Rummage Sale, especially the Chairperson Caroline May, Publicity Chairperson Vi Walker and Kay Bishop who worked so very hard each and every day.  Without you ladies I could not have done it.  And also to all the people who donated items to even have the sale and also the generous people who baked.  We made over $600 and I am very pleased.

May 4th is our District Meeting in Harrison and we will also have a Memorial Service to honor all our deceased members who have passed away this year.  Dinner is at Noon with the service to follow and then our meeting.  Please try and attend and wear white if you would like to participate in the service.  It is very lovely.

May 7th is our Mother Daughter Banquet where I will pass out continuous membership pins.  Pot Luck dinner at 6:30 followed by the awarding of pins and then the voting of the new officers for next year.  Please try and attend and bring a dish to pass and come and visit members you may not have seen in a long time.

Poppy Days are May 15th through the 17th. Please call Tina McIntosh @ 631-3502 if you can help distribute them.  She can use all the help she can get and would be very much appreciated.

Our membership is at only 86.98 % .  Please ladies send in your dues ASAP so we can make 100% by the end of May.  We still need about 40 more members to pay.

And lastly don't forget the Memorial Day Parade on May 26th. Join us at the plaque at 9AM for a lovely service to honor all our veterans.

Until next month, take care.

Rosie Howden - Auxiliary President

Sherry Brewster, a member of Berryhill Post 165 American Legion Auxiliary and daughter of past Berryhill Commander Barney Bearinger is presenting (see display to right) a NEW type of entertainment/exercise/fun to our membership.

All members of Berryhill (Legion/Auxiliary/SAL) will be able to attend, cost $1 per Member, Non-Members $5.

Sherry is also a member of "USA DANCE", a national dance organization, with local chapters. This organization has several thousand members who hold local monthly dances, in addition to this NEW Berryhill event.

Sherry is planning a "monthly" dance at Berryhill. At future events she will be teaching "basic rhythms" the base steps for all other dancing. Beginners as well as "Established" partners welcome. See you Sunday April 27 @ 2:30 pm.
