Send your email address, with member # & your name to Post 165 Adjutant Pat Hanley at theamericanlegion-post165@charter.net.The Four Pillars of The American Legion are: Strong National Security, Veterans Affairs, Americanism and Patriotic Youth Programs. Current efforts are being made toward 2008 entries into "Boys State" and "Student Trooper" programs. If you want to know more about these programs contact Wilson Coomer (989-631-1974) or Brian Cashin (989-513-0086). On Thursday, January 17th, Dave Kanary, Steve Tracy, Chuck Kaminski, Wilson Coomer and I went to the VA Hospital in Saginaw. We brought $100 in new gold president dollars to give to bingo winners, from the Legion general fund. There were 25 hospitalized veterans that came to play bingo. All told we were gone from Midland for 3 hours. Next time we go, on Thursday, February 21, Bob Bauder is replacing one of us. If you would like to go, contact Steve Tracy 989-835-3733. The only prerequisite is that you want to relieve a little boredom in the life of a hospitalized veteran’s confinement. CALENDAR (Thanks to Debbie & Brian Cashin) Bingo (every Monday evening 5:00 to 9:00) Burger night (every Thursday 5:00 to 7:30) Open Euchre (every Wednesday 1:00 pm) Trivia Night (every 2nd and 4th Tuesday at 7:30) ---- January Events----- February 1 February 3 SUPER BOWL XLII Party 4 pm til winner (bring dish to pass, deep fried turkey provided) February 6 Legion meeting 7:30 Auxiliary meeting 7:30 SAL meeting 7:30 February 9 VALENTINES PARTY 9 pm til ?$25 per couple (advanced tickets at bar) This is the Berryhill ANNUAL Baseball party with door prizes, auction, food and dancing. Several dinners coming up in February and March – call Marge Kelly at 989-835-9640 and have her add your name to the volunteer list. Don’t make us call you. Burger night cooks needed. Dish washers, not a fancy job, but it needs to be done – Kitchen committee would love to hear from you. Q U I C K F A C T: Just considering usage of Berryhill Post 165 Club room drinking privileges and burger night, Legionnaire membership ($40 yearly dues) divides out to $3.33 for once a month usage or 83 cents for once a week usage or 11 cents for once a day usage. SAL membership ($25 yearly dues) - $2.08 once a month or 52 cents once a week or 7 cents for once a day usage. Auxiliary membership ($20 yearly dues) - $1.67 once a month or 42 cents once a week or 5 cents for once a day usage. Start a new trend at the Legion – show your membership card to the bartender or waitress (they are busy, don’t wait for them to ask) – it’s your club – not showing your card only hurts you and if the wrong person doesn’t show their card you may find that your drinking privileges are gone.Hello Ladies,
I hope you are all keeping warm and those of you who are our snowbirds, please send us some warm weather. I don't know how the others feel, but I am ready for Spring.
We are having a joint steak dinner with the men on February 16th so please mark your calendars and come and support your Legion. On Saturday March 1st the District Meeting will be here in Midland. Dinner at 12:00 with the meeting to begin at 1:00PM. Please try and come so we can be proud of our Post and have a great showing.
Also keep saving your clean clothes and Misc things for our rummage sale the 1st week in April. I will keep you informed.
And lastly, I hate to sound like a broken record, but we still have about 15 members who have not sent in the additional $9.00 for membership. WE CANNOT PROCESS IT till we receive the full amount. As I have said before, membership is $20 not $11 as there was a misprint. Any questions you can call VI Walker @ 989 -631-1518 or just send it to her @ 3311 Green Rd., Midland, Mi 48640. Thank You for being so understanding. Rosie Howden - Aux. President - howdawg@chartermi.netWhen was the last time that you brought a new member into Berryhill Post 165? Membership, Legion membership is currently reaching toward 100% for the 2008 year. As of January 28, 2008 we have 652 members; 18 more members and we meet our goal of 670 members. Did you know that since June of 2007, the beginning of this membership drive, Berryhill has gained 28 new members. DID YOU KNOW THAT MOST MEMBERS BECOME MEMBERS BECAUSE AN EXISTING MEMBER ASKS THEM TO JOIN? Here’s the list. Can you add to Berryhill Post 165 membership?
