Berryhill Post 165
DECEMBER 2007 newsletter
Not receiving your newsletter via email. Send your email address, with member # & your name to Post 165 Adjutant Pat Hanley at theamericanlegion-post165@charter.net.Remember that your 2007 card is only good until December 31, 2007. After that date it will not work. Try the 2008 card, you’ll like it :)!!!! This applies to all Post 165 members Legion, Auxiliary and SAL. Did you know that, if you are a veteran and discharged under conditions other than dishonorable, who served at least 90 days and at least one day of which was during a period of war you may be eligible for VA pension. Also, a surviving spouse may be eligible. There are three levels to the VA pension: Basic Pension, Housebound, and Aid & Attendance. Certain income and net worth criteria must be met for eligibility of these pensions programs. Any questions please call (989) 832-6843. Ross Ahlich – Post Service Officer Have you thanked a volunteer recently? Have you volunteered recently? Bingo night (Monday) team workers needed. Burger night cooks needed. Dish washers, not a fancy job, but it needs to be done – Kitchen committee would love to hear from you. Willing to visit the VA hospital in Saginaw for bingo with the disabled? Call Legion 2nd Vice Commander Steve Hammond (687-2142) or SAL 1st Vice Commander Ed Holder (835-1670) or Auxiliary 2nd Vice President Rei-Li Tracy (835-3733) On October 27 your children and grandchildren enjoyed a Halloween party hosted by many, many Auxiliary, SAL & Legion members. Thanks to the Past Commanders for a $75 donation, to the Kitchen committee, to the SAL for $75, to Deb Northrup (from her own pocket) for $100 & to the Legion for $75 toward the party. Plans are being made for a Christmas party – donations and volunteers would be appreciated. The turnout was large enough for the Halloween party that we would appreciate your signing the sheet on the Bar bulletin board to signify your intended number of children to attend or call Jan Gordon at 832-3479 to let her make an accurate count. Santa and Mrs. Claus will be attending. Stories will be told and lists will be being checked. See you there on Saturday 15 from 1 pm to 3 pm, a pleasant shopping break.AUXILIARY NEWS: Happy Holidays to All! I can't believe it's that time of year already. We had our Swiss Steak dinner in October, which was a success, thanks to all who came out and ate. It was enjoyed by all. November 3rd we had our Bazaar and raffle which we also did well on. Thanks to all who bought tickets for the raffle and came to the Bazaar. There were many wonderful crafters with many wonderful things. We hope to make it an annual occasion. And thanks to all the people that baked for the bake sale too. We also are planning a spring rummage sale. We will keep you posted on the date, but wanted to let you know so that you can begin saving things for it. Remember they must be clean clothes or we cannot use them. Also, the 2008 membership is $20.00 not $11.00 as the notice you received stated. It was a printing error. SO if you only sent the $11.00 please send the remaining $9.00 to Vi Walker, 3311 Green Road, Midland Mi., 48640, so she can process it. Thank you. Sorry for the inconvenience. Take care and see you next year! Rosie Howden, Auxiliary President SAL NEWS We would like to thank everyone that purchased tickets and a special thank you to those that stepped up to sell them. Ed Holder sold an outstanding 435 tickets plus an additional 48 tickets just prior to the drawing. Hence, Ed sold 3 of the 4 winners. Mike Brandt SAL Commander and Brian Cashin SAL Finance Officer The item below is correspondence I had with Barry Sheets (Post 165 Legionnaire) on Friday, November 2, 2007 – Pat Hanley, Adjutant. Barry, Thanks for the generous response. Indeed, we have been too long without a newsletter. I genuinely hope that this effort to communicate with our brothers and sisters will succeed. Dean Titus, Son of the American Legion member, has long carried the torch on this matter of communication via www.post165.com and done a splendid job. I am copying your response to his email addresses and would like your permission to place your response in the December newsletter. I'm sure that many at the post would like your Dad & Mom's email address. Pat Hanley Post 165 – Adjutant BSheets752@aol.com wrote:Pat, Thanks so much for the newsletter. I have many fond memories of the Post and was the first member sworn in at the new club location. My Dad stood in for me while I was deployed to Vietnam and I couldn't have been prouder. The website is a wealth of information and is something I'll look at often. I forwarded the link to my Dad. Please include him and my mother on your email list. Berryhill Post 165 was such an important part of their lives for over 50 years. Cecil (Gabby) and Pat Sheets - New Port Richey, FL - 727-376-4985 - ( plcsheets@aol.com)Best Regards, Barry L.
